LED Video Wall Power Consumption: Average, Maximum and Quote Assumptions
Estimate LED display power from area and environment-specific specifications. See average, maximum and energy examples with clear purchasing conditions.
Keep power and energy in different columns
Power in watts or kilowatts describes the rate of electrical use. Energy in kilowatt-hours includes operating time: energy = power in kW × hours. For a display specification in W/m², multiply by the assembled display area in m² to estimate display power. Check whether the source value covers cabinets only or a larger system; add processors and other equipment separately where they are outside that scope.
Use the selected environment's average and maximum values
The InnoLux configuration specifications list indoor average/maximum power as 108/360 W/m² and outdoor as 168/560 W/m². These are supplier-listed values for separate configurations, not interchangeable settings. The public table does not identify the content, brightness or measurement procedure behind the average figures. Treat them as conditional purchasing estimates and confirm the supplied version and test conditions before relying on an operating-cost forecast.
| InnoLux configuration | Supplier average / maximum | 10 m² average estimate | 10 m² maximum estimate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indoor | 108 / 360 W/m² | 1,080 W = 1.08 kW | 3,600 W = 3.60 kW |
| Outdoor | 168 / 560 W/m² | 1,680 W = 1.68 kW | 5,600 W = 5.60 kW |
Worked energy estimate for an eight-hour event
For a 4 m × 2.5 m display, area is 10 m². If the indoor InnoLux example actually averages 1.08 kW over eight hours, display energy is 1.08 × 8 = 8.64 kWh. Under the outdoor average assumption, 1.68 × 8 = 13.44 kWh. Multiply measured or agreed estimated kWh by the applicable energy rate for a budget line. These examples assume constant average power and exclude other equipment; they are neither a utility-price quote nor a promised consumption level.
Use maximum power as information for the site plan
Average consumption helps form an operating estimate; it should not be used alone to size the electrical supply. Give the responsible electrical professional the exact cabinet and power-supply data, maximum load, supply conditions, connector requirements and any startup information. Branch circuits, cable ratings, protection, distribution and other site loads need their own review. A 3.60 kW or 5.60 kW display total alone is not a circuit, generator or distribution design.
Request a useful power record with the equipment quote
A power figure is more useful when its conditions travel with it. Use this checklist when comparing equipment or planning a representative measurement.
- Identify the series, version, pitch, indoor/outdoor configuration and assembled display area.
- Separate W per cabinet, W/m², total W or kW, and energy in kWh; retain the supplier's units.
- Record brightness, test content, operating duration and the measurement point for any average figure.
- List the maximum values and any power-supply or startup information needed for site review.
- Add processors, playback and other equipment separately, avoiding items already included in the display measurement.
- Keep the measured result with the tested configuration rather than applying it to every event or version.
Common questions
Can I assume average power is a fixed percentage of maximum power?
No. Keep the supplier's average and maximum figures separate and retain their test conditions. If the average test procedure is not stated, do not invent a ratio or treat the estimate as a measured event result.
Can I use indoor power values for an outdoor cabinet?
Use the values for the ordered environment and version. In the InnoLux example, indoor and outdoor configurations have different listed average and maximum figures.
How much will the display's electricity cost?
Multiply the display's measured or agreed estimated kWh by the applicable energy rate, then account for other equipment and venue charges separately. A display power specification alone cannot establish the final electricity bill.
Does this calculation tell me which circuit or generator to use?
No. It provides display-load information for the site review. The responsible professional must also consider supply conditions, distribution, connectors, startup, protection and other equipment loads.
